Ivy Dwight Jones

Ivy Dwight {Shorty) Jones was born Apri1 14, 1941 in Rockport, Tx, Aransas County; passed away on December 29, 2011. Dwight was married to Diane Sloat on September 3, 1966. They were married for 45 years and raised three children. Jason Dwight currently in Oakland, CA, Christopher Scott of Boerne, Tx and Katherine Diane and her husband James C Turner Sr of Schertz, Tx There are also two precious grandchildren, James C Turner Jr and baby Sarah Taylor Turner.

Dwight worked for Pepsi Cola in the early 60’s after being discharged from the Army in 1965. In 1966 he met Diane and began his civil service career. Working at the Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital, Kelly AFB, and Lackland AFB, earning a Distinguished Meritorious Civilian Service Award; He was Chief Engineer and Chief of Logistics and retired in 1995 with 33 years of service for DOD and 1365th AVS , He also earned six manager/civilian of the year awards and countless sustained superior awards.

He also worked for 6 years at The University of Texas Health Science Center. He graduated from Southwest Texas State University, San Marcos, Tx in 1980, earning a Bachelors Degree in Applied Arts & Sciences. He worked and played hard all his life. A true Cowboys fan to the end, he never missed a game.

He supported the Spurs, he enjoyed golf, fishing at the Coast, and riding Harley-Davidson Motorcycles was a passion for most his life; but most of all, he had an undying love for horse and dog trials. Hunting dove off horseback was the thrill of a lifetime for him. The walking horses behind the beautiful Brittany was inspiring to him and the lasting friendships he made are indeed everlasting and will never be forgotten.

The family is most grateful to have such wonderful, thoughtful and caring friends. We love you all. A true friend, husband and father. We will dearly miss him and love him forever. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 6:00 p.m – 8:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. A 3:00 p.m. Chapel Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Mission Burial Park North Mausoleum Chapel. Interment to follow in Mission Burial Park North.
