From the Front Lines to the World Stage: Documenting History Through the Lens of Service

Joint Base San Antonio–Lackland

BMT Parade Field | June 14 | 7:00 AM – 12:00 Noon

San Antonio, TX — On Saturday, June 14, at the Basic Military Training parade field at Joint Base San Antonio–Lackland, Air Force Combat Camera veterans will gather to commemorate their powerful legacy through the Airman Heritage Foundation’s “Legacy Paver Program Honoring Our Heroes.”

As part of this special tribute, three organizational pavers and fifteen personal pavers will be installed to honor the service and sacrifice of Combat Camera Airmen past and present. Veterans and families are traveling from across the country to witness this meaningful moment in Air Force history.

For over 80 years, U.S. Air Force Combat Camera has stood as the visual record of American airpower, documenting history as it unfolds. Known as “America’s Eyes to the World,” these elite photographers and videographers have been embedded with combat forces, flown aerial reconnaissance missions, and chronicled humanitarian efforts and diplomatic milestones across the globe.

Examples of their work that they have captured:

1. The emotional return of American hostages

2. Aerial photography from war zones to disaster areas

3. Nuclear testing and weapons development

4. Global humanitarian aid missions

5. Presidential visits and interactions with world leaders

From the beaches of Normandy to the mountains of Afghanistan, from tsunamis to state ceremonies, Combat Camera has preserved the full scope of the military experience—in war and peace.

This Legacy Paver installation recognizes the contributions of generations of Combat Camera Airmen and ensures their stories remain embedded in the heritage of the United States Air Force.
