Stanley J. Miedich

Dr. Stanley Jacob Miedich, 89, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his home on October 14, 2018. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles, and his beloved wife, Louise (nee Hagen), of 54 years. Stan is survived by his son Carl and daughter-in-law Lisa, grandchildren Kathryn, Matthew and Nicholas, and great-grandchildren Wesley, Madison and Gabriel. He was greatly loved and will be forever missed by his family and friends.

Stan was born on May 18, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY to Karol and Mary (nee Cerar) Miedich. He served in the US Air Force for more than 20 years, retiring in 1968 as a Major. During the Vietnam War he directed the audio-visual activities of hundreds of combat cameramen and received the Bronze Star. Stan obtained a Doctorate in Finance and Business Policy from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1980 and pursued a second career as a university professor at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and in Europe for Troy State University, before retiring in 1992.  He authored numerous finance articles and books, including Compassionate Capitalism and Moral Economic Policies, which is currently available on Amazon.

Stan was a member of the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs for 23 years, receiving the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was a true gentleman, known and loved for his kind and charitable nature. Stan enjoyed dancing, church and social activities, and discussing finance with his many friends. He traveled extensively, achieving in recent years his goal of visiting all of the Earth’s continents.

A memorial service will be held on November 16, 2018, at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St., Colorado Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rotary Foundation (https://www.rotary.org/en/donate).
