We’d like to welcome Robert Koehne, James Nelson and David Sommers!

Robert was a member of the AAVS community for six years. Commander 1369th AVS,  Vandenberg, 1976-1979, Director Operations, then Vice Commander, AAVS Hqtrs, Norton,  1979-1982.

James retired from the USAF in September  1988 as a MSGT (E-7) after 20 years of  service. During his  Air Force career he logged over 2,600 flying hours as an aerial photographer mainly on HC-130 aircraft flying satellite recovery missions while he was stationed at Hickam AFB, Hawaii. He has also logged many hours on T-38 and F-4 fighter jets performing photo chase missions over the White Sands Missile Range  while stationed at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. He has been TDY to many places during  his career including – Christ Church, New Zealand, Sydney Australia, South Korea,  Japan, Okinawa, Philippines, America Samoa, Guan, the Marshall Islands – Kwajalein and Enewetak.

David was a USAF photographer 1969-1973. Still Combat photographer, 600th Photo  Squadron, Det 16, Phu Cat AFB. He spent a few months at Pleiku AFB until the base was turned over to the Vietnamese. He then served about 6 months at Cannon AFB.  Afterwards he served two years as team photographer for Thunderbirds during F4 era  with over 150 hours in the backseat. After leaving USAF he worked as still and video photographer for Dow Chemical for seven years then spent almost 30 years as staff photographer for the Saginaw (MI) News, whith the last few years shooting video.  He also served on state and national professional boards. After retiring in 2009 from  the paper he still serves his community as a public safety scuba diver and firefighter.
