Mike Schlatter was first assigned to HQ AAVS in 1975 as a Television Production Officer. In 1977, he was assigned to the “Air Force Now” production crew. Three years later found him on his way to Yokota AB, Japan where he was commander of Det 6, 1363 AVS. In 1983, Mike went to the other side of the world when AAVS was asked to take over management of USAFE’s audiovisual resources. He served for three years as Operations Officer of the 1367 AVS at Ramstein AB, Germany. His next PCS was to Washington, D.C. as Operations Officer of the 1361 AVS. He was there less than a year before being reassigned to the Defense Audiovisual Policy Office in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He was then selected as Commander, 1365 AVS at Lackland AFB, TX in 1990. Three years later, he was ready to hang it up and retired in San Antonio where his wife, Jackie, and he still reside.
